Selected works

From the Series Farsh/Teppiche

  • Iranian artist Shirana Shahbazi (b. 1974) has recently taken her analog photographic work to a compelling new level of abstraction, culminating in the free disposition of colours and geometric forms. Her geometrical compositions, completely done without digital image processing, persuasively illustrate her ongoing concern with pictorial genres and modes of production. Her still lifes and portraits adopt the style of billboard advertising and at the same time evoke historical genre painting. Frequently Shahbazi presents her photographic abstractions in a fascinating dialogue with her figurative photography.
